Visayans are very proud of who they are. However, most of us are not proud of what Visayans can offer to the world. We don't
value what we have, instead we patronized other ethnic group's culture, Western culture or Tagalog culture in particular.
It is true that Visayans, particularly Cebuanos are apathetic to the Tagalogs; however, we patronize their music, arts and
culture while rejecting our own. It's not a sin to embrace other people's talent as long as you value and nurture your own.
The remaining arts that Cebuanos can be proud of are the Cebuano radio soap opera. Unfortunately, its popularity is
dwindling as well.
Approximately, in the 1950's and 60's, there were 10 movies were produced in the Cebuano language. Our grandfathers must have
been very proud of our arts and culture in those years.
Recently, a Bol-anon who did not even grow up in Southern Philippines has been making an effort to revive the Visayan movie
industry. Thanks to Mr. Cesar Montano for his multi-award winning "Panaghoy sa Suba". The Visayan movie industry has seen
the light of the tunnel. It is history!!!. Yes, it is indeed a history. At least in our time we have the opprotunity to watch
a movie in Visayan dialogue. The movie, aside from receiving awards from various award institution, was also shown in some
theaters in North America, including in Toronto, Monetreal, Hawaii, and California.
So BisCans, please throw your support for the ressurection of the Cebuano movie industry. Let's go watch the movie.
